Townsville’s development sector is showing strong momentum, with the latest Development Activity Report revealing significant progress in both residential and commercial sectors. The fourth quarter of 2024/25 financial year saw approvals worth $154 million in residential building applications and $130 million in commercial building applications.

Notable developments include two major subdivisions at Gumlow and Cosgrove, set to deliver 345 and 325 lots respectively. Additionally, an exciting new over-50s development in Mount Low has been approved, featuring 350 smaller blocks along with facilities such as a gym, pool, and community hall.

Community Safety and Law Enforcement Initiatives

The Townsville Police Service is implementing a comprehensive strategy combining visible everyday policing with coordinated covert measures to enhance community safety. Their efforts focus on hotspot areas including the Safe Night Precinct, CBD, shopping centres, and public transport hubs.

Recent enforcement actions have shown significant results, with police arresting 287 offenders – including 216 adults and 71 juveniles – on 997 charges. The Public Safety Response Team has conducted 501 bail checks and performed 889 wandings, resulting in the detection of 13 weapons.
