Major Changes Coming to Australian Lottery Games

The company behind Australia’s popular lottery games has announced significant changes to ticket prices, with players set to notice a slight increase in their weekly lottery costs. The modification will see entry prices rise by 20 cents across various games.

The announcement came as part of The Lottery Corporation’s full-year results, released recently. The company reported revenue of $3.7 billion for the 2025 financial year, marking a 6.2% decrease from the previous year, while net profit reached $365 million – an 11.7% decline from 2024.

Strategic Changes and Prize Offerings

Starting November 2025, Powerball tickets will see their price increase from $1.20 to $1.40. According to the company, these changes are designed to ‘reinforce its position as our premium jackpot game’ and will result in enhanced prize offers and retailer commissions.

Changes have already been implemented for Saturday Lotto, with the Division Prize offer increasing from $5 million to $6 million, accompanied by an additional 10-cent cost increase per game.

Impressive Performance Despite Economic Challenges

Despite economic pressures, customer participation has remained strong across the portfolio. The company’s top three games showed relatively stable performance, with Oz Lotto showing slight growth, while Powerball and Saturday Lotto experienced minor declines.

The lottery’s impact across Australia remains significant, with recent data showing that in the 11 months ending November 2024, there were 473 division one winning entries across all lottery games, delivering more than $1.58 billion in division one prize money.

Victoria led with the highest number of division one wins at 135, while New South Wales secured the largest prize pool totaling $521.3 million, followed closely by Queensland with $477.5 million. These impressive figures were boosted by several significant jackpots, including the record-breaking $200 million Powerball prize in February 2024 and a historic $150 million Powerball win by a South Australian player in May 2024, which set a new record for the largest individual lottery win in Australian history.
