The Next Evolution of Samsung’s Interface

One UI, Samsung’s integrated software platform designed to enhance Galaxy devices’ productivity and convenience, is getting its eighth major update. The new version will debut alongside Samsung’s newest foldables this summer and will gradually expand to more Galaxy devices, bringing an enriched, more personalized mobile experience with the latest version of Android.

Release Timeline and Availability

Samsung officially launched Android 16 with One UI 8 on July 9, 2025, at Galaxy Unpacked, and began running the One UI 8 beta program for the Galaxy S25 series on May 28, 2025.

The beta program expanded to include the Galaxy S24 series, Z Fold6, and Z Flip6 on August 13, 2025, available in Korea, the US, UK, and India. Samsung has confirmed that more devices, including the Galaxy S23 series, Z Fold5, Z Flip5, and several A-series models will join the beta program in September 2025. The stable One UI 8 update will begin rolling out in September 2025, starting with the Galaxy S25 series.

Key Features and Improvements

While One UI 8 represents a relatively minor update compared to the substantial changes introduced in One UI 7, it focuses primarily on under-the-hood improvements. Samsung’s emphasis is on bringing select Galaxy S25 and Galaxy Z Fold 7/Flip 7 features to older devices.

One notable addition is Now Brief, a Galaxy AI feature that acts as a personal assistant by providing personalized suggestions and actions based on daily routines. The update also brings improvements such as easier file sharing via Quick Share, a redesigned Samsung Internet browser, enhanced display support in Samsung DeX, and improved calendar and reminder management.

Device Eligibility

Under Samsung’s policy of providing at least three major OS upgrades for modern Galaxy devices, most budget and mid-range phones and tablets released in 2023 or later are eligible for One UI 8.0. The update comes preloaded on the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Galaxy Z Flip 7, and will be rolled out to older Galaxy devices from September 2025, with flagships receiving priority followed by mid-range and budget models.
