Only Murders in the Building Season 5: New York’s Favorite Sleuths Return with Their Most Dangerous Case Yet

Since its 2021 debut, Only Murders in the Building has become a cultural juggernaut, breaking records as the most-watched comedy premiere in Hulu history and later becoming the most-watched comedy ever on Hulu.

The hit comedy series will debut the first three episodes of its fifth season on September 9, with new episodes dropping weekly thereafter. The story follows as their beloved doorman, Lester (Teddy Coluca), dies under suspicious circumstances, leading Charles, Oliver, and Mabel to refuse to believe it was an accident.

Star-Studded Cast and New Additions

The core trio—Steve Martin (Charles), Martin Short (Oliver), and Selena Gomez (Mabel)—will all return for the fifth season, along with Meryl Streep as Loretta Durkin-Putnam. The new season will also introduce new characters played by Bobby Cannavale, Logan Lerman, Téa Leoni, Keegan-Michael Key and more. Dianne West will portray Lester’s wife.

Their investigation plunges them into the shadowy corners of New York and beyond — where the trio uncovers a dangerous web of secrets connecting powerful billionaires, old-school mobsters, and the mysterious residents of the Arconia. The trio discovers a deeper divide between their storied city they thought they knew and the new New York evolving around them — one where the old mob fights to hold on as newer, even more dangerous players emerge.

Critical Acclaim and Awards

The show has proven popular with both audiences and critics since its launch in 2021. To date, the show has received nearly 60 Emmy Award nominations across four seasons. It recently received seven nominations for the 2025 Emmys, including one for best comedy series. The show also scored two wins at the 2025 SAG Awards, including the honor for best comedy series ensemble.

Launching September 25 through the finale on October 30, a 6-part digital series will spotlight key themes from Season 5 through exclusive interviews and behind-the-scenes footage.
