A City on the Rise

Logan, a local government area situated between Brisbane and the Gold Coast in South East Queensland, has emerged as a major regional growth and development corridor, second only to Brisbane in the state.

Home to more than 340,000 people from 217 different cultures, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, Logan boasts a notably young population with about half of its residents aged 30 or younger.

Infrastructure and Development

The city is currently addressing rapid population growth challenges with significant infrastructure developments. New transport services are being implemented, particularly in western suburbs experiencing fast growth, with additional bus services being introduced to key growth areas including Logan Reserve, Bahrs Scrub and Park Ridge.

Major projects include a $500 million investment towards the Logan and Gold Coast Faster Rail, and $42 million dedicated to the Greater Flagstone Priority Development Area. The latter includes the extension of Teviot Road and new road construction, which is projected to facilitate over 7,000 lots by 2051.

Future Growth and Planning

Logan is projected to be one of the fastest-growing areas in South East Queensland, with the population expected to exceed 500,000 by 2036. This growth is planned to be distributed across the city, with approximately a quarter occurring in established areas and the remainder in emerging areas such as Jimboomba, Park Ridge and Bahrs Scrub.

To support this growth, the city is investing in education infrastructure, with over $30 million allocated for two future schools in high-growth suburbs of Greenbank and Park Ridge. Additionally, Griffith University’s Logan campus in Meadowbrook is being developed into a specialist precinct focused on health, research and education.

Community Impact

The city is currently reviewing its planning scheme, known as Logan Plan 2025, which will serve as the “book of rules” to guide growth and infrastructure delivery. The plan aims to keep successful elements from the current scheme while improving areas that need enhancement, with the final version to be shared with the community in late 2025.
