Daniel Jones’ 2023 season came to an abrupt end when he suffered a torn ACL during a 30-6 loss to the Las Vegas Raiders, just 21 snaps after returning from a previous neck injury.

The New York Giants subsequently released the veteran quarterback, a decision that came after his benching ahead of Week 12. Jones made the choice to depart and seek opportunities elsewhere in the NFL.

The Financial Impact

Jones had signed a substantial four-year, $160 million contract with the Giants in March that included $46 million for the 2023 season and $36 million in 2024, with an additional $23 million guaranteed for injury in 2025.

His performance had fallen short of expectations, with just two touchdown passes in his past eight games. His struggles were evident in the Giants’ season-opening loss, where he completed only 52.4% of his passes and threw two interceptions. The team went 1-6 in the seven games Jones started since signing his massive deal.

Jones has been cleared for contact ahead of training camp and has been actively participating in practice. The upcoming season will be critical for him as he enters his sixth year in the NFL, presenting an opportunity to prove himself as a quarterback of the future.
