Canterbury Bulldogs’ Historic 2025 Season: Success Across Both NRLW and NRL Competitions

The Canterbury Bulldogs have achieved a remarkable milestone in their debut NRLW season, becoming just the third team in the competition’s eight-year history to win their first two matches.

The team’s success has been driven by standout performances, particularly from 20-year-old back-rower Alexis Tauaneai, who dominated with 215 metres, five tackle breaks and a try. Strong support came from forwards Holli Wheeler and Angelina Teakaraanga-Katoa, while fullback Andie Robinson contributed significantly with 164 metres from 20 runs.

NRL Team’s Transformation

The Bulldogs’ NRL squad has undergone significant changes, unveiled at the Club’s 90-Year Anniversary Gala. Under the leadership of coach Cameron Ciraldo and captain Stephen Crichton, the team has strengthened its roster with five new recruits for the 2025 season.

Key additions to the squad include versatile outside back Enari Tuala, returning Bulldog Marcelo Montoya, Tongan representative Sitili Tupouniua, front rower Tom Amone, and promising young forward Zyon Maiu’u.

Current Form and Future Prospects

The Bulldogs have shown impressive home ground form in 2025, winning seven from nine matches at Accor Stadium. Despite recent challenges with three losses in their past four matches, the team has secured a second straight finals appearance under Ciraldo’s guidance. The former Penrith defensive coach is now focused on securing the club’s first premiership since 2004.

Looking to the future, the club has confirmed six players for their 2025 development list, including promising talent Lipoi Hopoi, who made his NRL debut in Round 13 and is contracted until 2026.
