Brisbane Festival 2025: Artistic Director’s Final Program Promises Most Expansive Festival Yet

A Transformative Cultural Celebration
Brisbane Festival has unveiled its most expansive and city-shaping program to date, set to transform the city into a dynamic celebration of art, culture and community from September 5-27. The entire city will become a stage — and everyone’s invited!
Record-Breaking Scale
The expansive 2025 program brings together an impressive 2,260 artists across 106 productions and 1,069 performances, including 21 world premieres. Notably, over 39% of the program will be offered free to the public, demonstrating the festival’s commitment to accessibility and bringing world-class art to every corner of the city.
Artistic Director’s Farewell Season
This year marks Louise Bezzina’s final festival as Artistic Director, promising to be the most expansive and city-shaping in its 29-year history. Following the festival, Louise will transition into a dual role as CEO and Artistic Director of Brisbane Powerhouse, continuing her legacy at one of Queensland’s premier cultural institutions.
Festival Highlights
The program features Queensland’s most celebrated artists and companies, including performances by Camerata and Kate Miller-Heike, the Queensland Symphony Orchestra, Stephen Page’s Baleen Moondjan and Australasian Dance Collective’s Bad Nature.
Spectacular Events
Festival favourite Riverfire will light up the sky on September 6, with prime viewing locations at South Bank and Queen’s Wharf. The program also includes the return of the breathtaking drone display Skylore, while a new addition called Afterglow will illuminate the City Botanical Gardens night skies.
Economic and Cultural Impact
The festival is expected to deliver a major boost to Queensland’s visitor economy as the city comes alive with creative energy. As noted by city officials, “Brisbane Festival is more than an arts event — it’s a celebration of our identity as Australia’s lifestyle capital,” showcasing the city’s creativity, diversity, and world-class local talent.
