The Brisbane Lions have secured their premiership-winning coach Chris Fagan’s future, with the veteran leader signing a contract extension that will keep him at Brighton Homes Arena until the end of 2027.

Fagan’s journey with the Lions has been remarkable, taking them from the bottom of the ladder in 2017 to their current status as reigning premiers.

Record-Breaking Achievement

The 2024 season proved to be historic for Fagan and the Lions, as they mounted the second-highest finals comeback against Greater Western Sydney in the semi-final, coming back from 44 points down, before going on to defeat the Sydney Swans by 60 points in the Grand Final.

This achievement was particularly noteworthy as Fagan became the third winning VFL/AFL premiership coach to have never played in the league, as well as the oldest coach to feature in a grand final at 63.

Commitment to Excellence

His on-field record speaks volumes, having led the club to their recent premiership, a Grand Final appearance the previous year, and six consecutive finals series. Beyond the statistics, Fagan has been instrumental in creating a culture that enables everyone to become the best version of themselves.

Looking ahead, Fagan has committed his future exclusively to Brisbane, stating, “I don’t think I’ll ever coach anyone else other than Brisbane. I don’t think I want to.” He expressed his contentment with being identified as the Lions’ coach and indicated his willingness to continue as long as he maintains the support of the club and the players’ response.
