NYC Remembers: 24th Anniversary of 9/11 Brings City Together in Solemn Tribute

Commemorative Ceremonies Mark Solemn Anniversary

The National September 11 Memorial & Museum will hold its annual commemoration ceremony to observe the 24th anniversary of the 9/11 terror attack in Lower Manhattan, NYC in 2025.

The ceremony will begin at 8:30 a.m., with families gaining access to the Memorial plaza from 7:30 a.m. The commemoration is expected to conclude at approximately 1 p.m.

Following the initial moment of silence, family members of victims from both the 9/11 attacks and the 1993 bombing will read the names of all victims. The reading will include pauses marking significant moments of the tragic attack sequence, including when United Airlines Flight 175 struck the south tower, when American Airlines Flight 77 hit the Pentagon, and when the south tower collapsed.

Citywide Tributes and Remembrance

The 9/11 Memorial and Museum has partnered with NYC Tourism + Conventions to expand the Tribute in Light, incorporating numerous city buildings. Notable participants include One World Trade Center, the Empire State Building, The Oculus, the Bank of America Tower, and the JFK Air Traffic Control Tower, along with various bridges throughout the region.

The iconic Tribute in Light will feature 88 7,000-watt xenon lightbulbs arranged in two 48-foot squares, mirroring the original Twin Towers’ shape and orientation. These powerful beams will be visible within a 60-mile radius from dusk on September 11 until dawn on September 12.
