Tragic Incident Unfolds in Suburban Denver

A male student at Evergreen High School opened fire on Wednesday, September 10, 2025, injuring two other students before dying of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The incident began around 12:30 PM, with officers arriving at the scene within two minutes and encountering the shooter within five minutes.

Swift Response and Immediate Action

The shooting occurred during the third week of classes this semester, prompting over 100 law enforcement officers to swarm the campus, conducting room-by-room searches while the school went into lockdown. Most students ended their day waiting at a nearby reunification center.

According to hospital spokesperson Lindsay Radford, one student remains in critical condition at St. Anthony’s Hospital, while the other injured student’s condition was reported as stable. Officials do not believe there are any additional injuries.

Community Impact and Response

‘No student, no educator, no family should ever have to endure the terror and trauma of gun violence in a place of learning,’ stated Brooke Williams, president of the Jefferson County Education Association, and Kevin Vick, president of the Colorado Education Association, in a joint statement.

Governor Jared Polis emphasized that ‘this kind of violence has absolutely no place in Colorado or anywhere, especially our schools, where kids should feel safe to learn and grow.’ Senator Michael Bennet expressed horror at the incident and thanked law enforcement for their swift response.

Ongoing Investigation

Authorities are currently investigating the shooter’s home, locker, and car in search of a possible motive. The shooting, which involved a revolver, occurred both inside and outside the school. The sheriff’s office reported there were ‘hundreds’ of witnesses, and it remains unclear whether the victims were specifically targeted.

Evergreen High School, which has more than 900 students, is largely surrounded by forest and is located about a mile from the center of Evergreen, a community of 9,300 people.
