Veteran Journalist Clint Stanaway Bids Farewell to Nine Network After Quarter-Century of Excellence

Nine Network has announced that esteemed journalist, Weekend Today host and 9News Melbourne Weekend Sport Presenter, Clint Stanaway, will be departing the network at the end of the year after a distinguished career spanning nearly 25 years.

Distinguished Career Journey

Stanaway’s remarkable journey began in the news library at GTV9 in Melbourne, before moving to WIN Television in Bendigo as a reporter. His career at Nine News Melbourne flourished as he took on roles as a general reporter and court reporter, eventually being appointed Weekend Sport Presenter in 2010, where he covered prestigious events including Olympics, World Cups, Grand Slams, Melbourne Cups and numerous AFL Grand Finals.

In recent years, Stanaway has demonstrated his versatility by bringing warmth and professionalism to national audiences as the co-host of Weekend Today, while maintaining his responsibilities as the weekend sports anchor for Melbourne’s top-rating 6.00pm news bulletin.

Future Focus on Radio

Since 2021, Stanaway has been the newsreader for the Melbourne breakfast radio show Jase & Lauren, following them from KIIS to Nova in 2024. While his multiple roles have earned him a reputation as one of the hardest-working talents in radio and TV, he has expressed a desire to achieve “a better work/life balance.”

Legacy and Impact

Nine’s National News Director, Hugh Nailon, praised Stanaway’s career as “a stellar example of what can be achieved through sheer hard work and dedication,” noting his brilliance as both a journalist and storyteller, and highlighting his valuable role as a mentor to many in the newsroom.

Stanaway will conclude his tenure at Nine at the end of the year, noting that while he leaves “with a heavy heart,” he suspects “it won’t be forever,” expressing gratitude to the Nine family for their support throughout his career.
