DC Studios Announces Next Superman Adventure

James Gunn has unveiled the next project in his Superman Saga, with ‘Man of Tomorrow’ scheduled to hit theaters on July 9, 2027. This announcement comes at a significant time for DC Studios, as they continue to expand their cinematic universe.

Building on Recent Success

The current Superman film has proven to be a major success, becoming the seventh-highest-grossing film of 2025 with $612 million worldwide. Critics have praised the movie for its fun, colorful, and earnest approach, particularly highlighting the performances of its lead actors.

The announcement was accompanied by exciting artwork from DC head Jim Lee, featuring Lex Luthor in his iconic green and purple mech suit – a design that has been prevalent in comics and animation for decades but has never been realized in live-action.

Returning Cast and Creative Team

Following the massive success of Superman, DC Studios is moving swiftly with development, with James Gunn returning to write and direct. David Corenswet and Nicholas Hoult are expected to reprise their roles as Superman/Clark Kent and Lex Luthor, respectively.

Part of Larger DCU Plans

The film fits into DC’s broader release schedule, which includes Craig Gillespie’s Supergirl (June 26, 2026) and James Watkins’ horror title Clayface (September 11, 2026). The current Superman film has already introduced numerous characters to populate the DC Universe, including not just the core cast but also heroes such as Guy Gardner, Mister Terrific, and Hawkgirl.

Gunn has previously promised that scripts will come first in these productions, preventing messy reshoots and other expensive holdups until the stories have been locked down.
