A New Era in Fighting Games

Riot Games is making waves in the gaming industry with their newest venture, 2XKO, a free-to-play 2v2 tag fighter set to release later this year.

Originally known as Project L, 2XKO represents Riot Games’ first entry into the fighting game genre, combining the beloved champions from League of Legends with fast-paced, team-based fighting mechanics designed to appeal to both casual players and competitive veterans.

Closed Beta Details and Features

The Closed Beta launches on September 9, 2025, exclusively for PC players. Once started, the game will remain online outside of necessary maintenance. This marks the beginning of a broader rollout, with Riot Games planning to gradually expand access until the game is available to everyone.

The initial roster features nine League of Legends champions: Darius, Ahri, Ekko, Yasuo, Illaoi, Braum, Jinx, Vi, and Blitzcrank. Two new additions – Vi and Blitzcrank – are particularly noteworthy, with Vi making her first playable appearance since EVO, and Blitzcrank debuting as a grappler specialist with his iconic Rocket Grab.

Competitive Structure and Accessibility

Riot has unveiled a comprehensive ranking system for competitive play, featuring a familiar progression system where players advance through tiers from Aspirant through Iron, Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum, Emerald, Diamond, Master, and Grandmaster.

During the Closed Beta, players will have access to various cosmetics, though champion skins won’t be available initially. The game will operate without any real-money purchases, and there won’t be a Battle Pass system during this phase.

Looking Ahead

As development continues, Riot Games plans to expand the champion roster, drawing from their pool of over 140 League of Legends characters. Access to the closed beta is being carefully managed through a limited invitation system to ensure server stability, with beta participants having the ability to share codes with friends.
