A Historic Finals Series Takes Shape

The 2025 AFL season marks the 129th season of Australia’s premier football competition, culminating in a four-week finals series featuring the top eight clubs.

Week One Finals Schedule

The AFL has confirmed an action-packed first week of finals, beginning with Adelaide taking on Collingwood at Adelaide Oval on Thursday, September 4, followed by Geelong hosting Brisbane at the MCG on Friday, September 5. The weekend continues with Greater Western Sydney hosting Hawthorn at Engie Stadium on Saturday, September 6, at 3:15pm AEST, followed by Fremantle facing Gold Coast at Optus Stadium at 7:35pm AEST.

Historical Significance

Adelaide enters the finals with an impressive record, having not lost a home final against an interstate side since 2012, and maintaining a perfect record in finals against interstate sides at Adelaide Oval since 2016. In a milestone moment for the competition, the Gold Coast Suns are making their first-ever finals appearance in their 15th year of existence.

Path to the Grand Final

The winners of the qualifying finals – Collingwood and Geelong – await in the preliminary finals. Geelong will face the victor of Adelaide’s semi-final match, while Collingwood will host the winner of Brisbane’s semi-final contest. For the first time since 2019, the MCG will host both preliminary finals, leading up to the grand finale on Saturday, September 27, at 2:30pm, where the two preliminary final winners will battle for the ultimate prize.
